Yesterday I decided to visit Wolle-Halle, a local outlet yarn-store. They offer a simply overwhelming yariety of colors and qualities. The yarns are all on cones so you can decide how much you want of every yarn and quality and also whether you like your yarn one-threaded, two-threaded or whatever you like. For example if you like your yarn four-threaded, the friendly shop assistant takes four cones to a very huge and loud machine und winds it four-threaded on a new cone. Quite interesting to watch
. Anyway, they don’t twine the yarn so it’s a bit difficult to work with (unless you have an electric twister or something like that at home).
I was looking for some very fine merino to do a lace shawl. I got „Victorian Lace Today“ for Christmas, which is a wonderful and highly recommendable source for beautiful lace shawls. Still, I decided to work Eunny’s Print-of-the-wave-stole first. So I bought double-threaded merino (about 400 m / 50 g) and will start the knitting soon. It’s quite difficult to get suitable yarn for lace-knitting in Germany, since almost all the yarns offered at the LYS’s are much to bulky. Maybe lace knitting isn’t (yet?) popular enough here. If you ask at the LYS for lace-yarns the shop assistants will probably offer you some mercerized cotton, perhaps suitable for crocheted doilies. I think we definitely have a market gap here!
Hi there! I decided to start a little spin-off of my regular blog. This blog will be about knitting (and perhaps some other crafts) only! On the one hand I don’t want to bore my non-crafty readers with „yarn-stuff“ on the other hand I hope to reach new readers by writing in English. Enjoy the show!
